OPHIUCHUS

True Sidereal Astrology & 13 Zodiac Signs

Your Birth Chart Now Matches The Sky

What is True Sidereal Astrology and Why is it Relevant?

is a system that bases the zodiac on the actual positions of the constellations in the sky, rather than using evenly divided 30-degree signs as in tropical astrology. It aligns planetary positions with the real constellations, which vary in size. It also includes the 13th sign Ophiuchus as it aligns the zodiac with the actual constellations along the ecliptic path—the path that the Sun and planets follow in the sky, that also crosses the constellation of Ophiuchus.

True Sidereal Astrology
What it means

In a natal chart, planetary positions and the placement of signs can differ by approximately 23 to 24 degrees between sidereal and tropical astrology systems. This results in an individual's sign often shifting to the one immediately preceding it in sidereal astrology compared to tropical astrology. Additionally, since sidereal astrology considers the actual sizes of constellations, the durations of zodiac signs can vary, meaning some signs may cover longer or shorter periods than others.

One Very Important Thing

The difference between Midpoint True Sidereal Astrology and the IAU system is that the IAU (International Astronomical Union) defines zodiac boundaries based on fixed star positions for astronomical purposes, which do not align with the Sun’s actual path (the ecliptic) used in astrology. The Midpoint system, used in True Sidereal Astrology, determines zodiac boundaries as midpoints along the ecliptic between constellations, making it astrologically relevant by matching the Sun and planets' path while respecting the real sizes of constellations. Essentially, the IAU serves astronomy with strict celestial coordinates, while the Midpoint system adapts these for practical and precise astrological readings.

The reason some sources say Ophiuchus starts on November 28, 29, 30, or December 1 and ends on December 17 is because the exact start date varies depending on the zodiac boundary system used. True Sidereal Astrology, especially using the Midpoint Method, defines Ophiuchus roughly from December 7 to December 18, while the IAU astronomical boundaries place it from about November 29 to December 17.
